No doubt, many Americans have heard of Liberation Theology, but few laypersons have studied it. This point of view which emerged in South America is focuses on the dignity of the poor and the unjust social structures which contribute to poverty. It’s not without its controversies.

What is Liberation Theology? Why is it so controversial? How can this theology help bring us closer to Christ and serve Him better?

Patrick Smith, Campus Minister for the Diocese of Memphis and graduate student in Theology at the University of Notre Dame, will explain Liberation Theology, it’s origins, and present a very practical view of how it can guide our work to help the poor in this world.
